The next essential item for Parents to stock up on, beer. With the ongoing pandemic sweeping the globe, production of CO2 is grinding to a halt from ethanol plants. This is sparking concerns that beverages such as beer, soda and seltzer water may end up being in short supply, and for many people these are essential items right now. How else can one get through this long year that we call April. Parents need this!
What is CO2?
CO2 is carbon dioxide. It’s used for carbonation in many drinks to give it its fizz. So how it breaks down, Producers capture CO2 as a byproduct of Ethanol production. Ethanol is used in the production of the nations gasoline supply but with gasoline demand down by more than 30%, there is a shortage of supply of ethanol.
CEO of the Brewers Association, Bob Pease says, Beer brewers and CO2 suppliers have increased prices 25% due to the shortage. He expects some brewers to cut production in the next 2 to 3 weeks. While some large beverage producers such as Coca-Cola and SodaStream owner of PepsiCo have not weighed in, the few beverage producers that have such as Lacroix say they don’t anticipate a supply issue.
So take it for what it’s worth. The Compressed Gas Association sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence saying CO2 production could fall by 50% in April without help. This could be the next essential item flying off the store shelves. Get it while you can.
